Time Frame: Hours are generally M-F, 7:00-6:00pm (times may vary), June 11 - August 5th, 2018. There will be additional hours prior to the start of camp season to plan, prepare and train for camp.
Compensation: Dependent on experience and skills, will receive an hourly wage as compensation on a bi-weekly schedule.

Responsible To: Camp Fire Heartland Program Manager
To further the mission of Camp Fire through the planning and facilitating program activities and events. Designed and deliver program activities that are safer, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities. Assist in the management of the overall camp operation at the direction of the program manager. Assists in maintaining high staff morale, while providing leadership to campers and camp staff.
§ Assist in the camp managerial responsibilities as outlined by the program manager.
o Submit all required reports and paperwork on time, keeping accurate records on campers.
o Provides support and supervision for all counselors.
o Works with counselors to ensure success of campers each week.
o Substitutes for counselors as needed.
o Ensures that high expectations and accountability are balanced by fun, compassion and support.
§ Oversee in the direction, supervision, and organization of counselors within activities and throughout the camp.
o Assures campers are properly supervised at all times.
o Coordinate camp program activities with other staff.
o Promote ongoing program ideas to counselors.
§ Participate in the development and implementation of camp program activities that align with the Camp Fire mission and outcomes.
o Plan, facilitate and participate in all camp programming activities as outlined by the program manager.
o Ensure groups participate successfully in all aspects of camp activities.
o Monitor camper behavior and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques and redirection as needed.
§ Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
o Ensure that camp counselors and campers know and follow emergency procedures, behavior guidelines, and expectations.
o Become familiar with and implement camp policies, procedures, ACA guidelines as state in the Summer Camp Staff Manual.
o Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper utilization, care, and maintenance are adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to program manager.
o Ensures and maintains the cleanliness of camp facilities, equipment and grounds.
§ Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
o Encourage counselors and build community within camp staff.
o Follow camp rules, regulations and policies.
o Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean up chores, and sportsmanship.
o Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, facilities, and the environment.
o Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
§ Represent the camp when interacting with parents and community member.
o Maintain good public relations with campers’ parents, visitors, and the community.
o Provide parents appropriate feedback and information as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
o Supports the mission, purpose and leadership of Camp Fire and projects a positive image of Camp Fire.
Other Job Duties
§ Assist with the seasonal opening and closing of camp.
§ Help with camp maintenance and cleanup of facilitates when necessary.
§ Assist in other camp tasks and duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
§ High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
§ Experience working with children preferred.
§ Have a desire and ability to work with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds.
§ Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
§ Have (or be willing to receive) First Aid and CPR certification.
§ Ability to manage, supervise and work as a team.
§ Maintains a positive attitude in times of high stress.
§ Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
§ Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
Physical Aspects of Position
§ Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
§ Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
§ Endurance including standing, some bending, stooping and stretching.
§ Ability to work in the sun and heat, and varying environmental conditions.
§ Ability to lift 50 pounds.
