Summary:  

The Development Manager will evaluate current donor base for increased gifts at lower levels to upgrade donors to new gift levels, plan for development and implementation of comprehensive unrestricted and restricted annual giving programs, and execute and evaluate annual giving solicitations from the $1 to $5,000 giving levels.  The position showcases the successful candidate’s innovative and broad-based fundraising or sales expertise, as he or she leads and expands a multi-faceted fundraising program that includes annual gifts, alumni relations, mail appeals (EOYA/Spring/Special) and special events.

The incumbent will direct the annual giving activities and programs to ensure appropriate cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies are implemented and that fundraising goals are met.

This role partners with the Chief Development Office, Database Manager and Regional Development Officer to leads the effort to leverage community relationships to expand the national donor base and achieve the fund-raising goals and strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree is required for this position. The successful candidate will be a seasoned non-profit development professional with a minimum of 3-5 years of fundraising experience, preferably in a non-profit organization with a chapter/council structure. This position can be located remotely or at national headquarters in Kansas City, MO.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibilities:

The Development Manager will 

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and manage annual giving, mail appeals, and special events.
    • Set an ambitious and strategic plan, focused on:
      1. Expanding and diversifying the donor base.
      2. Generating a “ground-swell” of support at all levels with the potential to engage and motivate donors even at the major gift level.
      3. A primary focus is on small and mid-level giving.
      4. Growing revenue through small gifts from a larger base.
      5. Creating a pipeline of prospects for future large gifts.
  • Alumni relationships
    • Coordinate events and collaborate with Marketing Manager and Chief Development Officer to develop effective and inclusive marketing and communication that identifies, recruits and stewardship alumni relations.
    • Partner with the Director of Marketing and Marketing Manager to develop annual marketing materials to mail and distribute to Camp Fire’s alumni base.
    • Oversee donor relations and stewardship as it pertains to these constituency groups.

  • Administer Camp Fire policy requiring approval of all donor solicitations. Help with work-related prospect management and tracking system (Donor Search) as needed. Work in a team environment with the National Development Staff.

Requirements:

  • Proactively implement a strategy of shared philanthropy building, working in close cooperation with leaders and development professionals from Camp Fire’s local Councils across the country.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to initiate and perform complex analyses and organize information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals and mail appeals.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and develop proactive prospecting mail appeals to support organizational goals.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy required to function effectively among regional council's fundraisers, high-level administrators, and volunteers.  Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work, and independently manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing, Spreadsheet, presentation, database/CRM and Internet software, as well as knowledge of digital/social media platforms. 

Travel

Approximately 10% percent travel.  Must have a valid driver’s license.
